Can I get a single PCB assembled, or is there a minimum quantity?
One board is enough. Amazing Assembly starts at a single populated PCBA, which is what you want when you're checking one revision before committing to a batch. Beautiful Boards are the exception: those come in sets of three.
Can you place through-hole parts, or only SMD?
Both, and mixed on the same board. Double-sided, through-hole, SMD or mixed, down to 0201. If you're unsure whether a particular package or process is covered, the Assembly Portfolio has the current list, and support will tell you straight if something won't work.
How is PCB assembly priced?
An Amazing Assembly order has three parts: the bare board, the components, and the assembly fee itself. The assembly fee is built from the tasks your project actually needs: setup tasks, per-panel tasks like paste printing and reflow, and per-component tasks like placement and inspection. You're only charged for the tasks your board requires, and you see the total before you check out rather than after a sales rep emails you back. The full breakdown is in Our Simple Pricing.
Why is PCB assembly so expensive in small quantities?
Because the setup work barely changes between three boards and three hundred. Machines are prepared, components are checked in, a placement programme is written, and all of that happens once regardless of how many boards come off the line afterwards. Spread across three boards, it's most of your invoice. A few tips that move the needle: Order more boards, because setup tasks are spread across the run. Reduce the number of unique part numbers rather than the number of parts. Prefer machine-placeable packages over anything that needs a soldering iron.
Can I supply my own components for assembly?
Yes. Self-supplied parts are supported, and a per-part handling fee applies for the check-in and handling effort. The same route works for parts our search form can't find: we can also obtain those through brokers, so talk to a Project Manager before you order.
How can I check the parts will be placed the right way round?
Open the Board Viewer in your project. Every assigned part is drawn where it will be placed, with pin 1 marked on ICs and cathodes marked on diodes. That's the moment to catch a rotated connector or a flipped polarity — considerably cheaper than catching it with a multimeter later. If the assembled board doesn't match the rendering you approved, we rework it at no cost.
How long does PCB assembly take?
With the Blitz service, a 2-layer assembly is manufactured from 9 business days. That number covers procuring your components as well as building the board, which is why it sits well above a bare PCB: nothing can be placed until the parts are physically here. 4-layer assemblies take longer, and one long-lead component can hold an otherwise finished build. Target and current figures per technology are on the Service Status page, and you get a concrete dispatch date the moment you order, plus an email if anything moves.
